Raul Julia blazed a trail as a role model in his personal
and professional life. From his humble Puerto Rican beginnings, to becoming
a stage and film star--Julia proved that passion and compassion were
the tools necessary to reach ones dreams. Baez, painted the portrait,
to capture the spirit of the Puerto Rican culture and project Julia's
depth of character. "Although most people remember Raul Julia for his
portrayal of Gomez Addams in 'The Addams Family' (1991) and its sequel
'Addams Family Values' (1993), what they don't know is his efforts to
eradicate hunger with 'The Raul Julia Ending Hunger Fund' and that the
'Raul Julia Scholarship Fund' was named in his honor. It's purpose is
to benefit exemplary Puerto Rican youth in need of financial assistance
to pursue their college education," said Baez.
Elizabeth
E. Baez was born in Brooklyn, New York, but spent her early teenage
years at "The Isla de Encanto." Her passion is to bring to life colors,
textures and emotions that evoke serenity and joy. "This portrait was
the perfect opportunity to celebrate my heritage--my passion--and the
need to make a difference in my community," said Baez. Her art work
has premiered at Saint Auvent Gallery, France; DAVINCI'S Gallery, International
Show, Coral Gables; Coconut Grove Arts Festival with the South Florida
Artwork Show, Coconut Grove; Les Journees Europeennes du Partimoine,
France; among others.
